Every February Russo's Books partners with the Bakersfield book buying public to provide funds for First Book Bakersfield.  10% of all book purchases made at Russo's on Saturday, February 27 will be donated to the local First Book chapter.  These funds will be used to provide underprivileged area children with their "first book."

To add to the festivities, First Book Bakersfield is featuring a four-hour Celebrity Storytime at Russo's Books.  Come into the store, enjoy a fun story, and purchase any book of your choice, knowing that part of the proceeds will help literacy in our community.

Here is the schedule of Celebrity Readers:

10:00 to 10:30 a.m  Mira Monte High School Writing / Poetry Club 

10:30 to 11:00 a.m  Debby Kroeger and animal friend, CALM

11:00 to 11:30 a.m  Jim Lane, geologist

11:30 - 12:00 p.m.  Kern County Fire Department

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.  The Silver Tongue Society, South High School and Randy de Jong

1:00 - 1:30 p.m.  Dr. Christine Lizard Frazier, KCSOS Superintendent

1:30 - 2:00 p.m.  Dee Slade, African American Network  

2:00 - 2:30 p.m.  Harold Hansen, Bakersfield City Council

Every Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. we hold a Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game tournament at our Marketplace store. Sign-ups begin at 2:45.

If you are new to the game, we recommend our Friday afternoon sessions, but if you are ready to battle, be sure to join our official Saturday Tournament.
